Conversion

We have had involvements in many successful conversions of buildings as a Practice, bringing redundant or derelict shells back into good use as housing for individuals or as business premises.

Many of the buildings we work on especially in the more urban areas or town centres are in conservation areas or are themselves listed which requires a good knowledge of the traditional construction skills needed to be re-used to repair the buildings and adapt them to today's current standards.

This is especially true in terms of achieving the optimum thermal efficiency of the existing building which is becoming ever more important to the eventual users and owners.

Church Lane, Oving

Originally a complex of derelict agricultural buildings centred on the traditional farmyard. The buildings were converted into a series of residential properties, finished in the local vernacular.

Developer: BH Property Developments Ltd

Gravel Farm, Finmere

Originally a set of stables to serve the farmhouse, laid out around a traditional enclosed yard, the buildings were a mix of local stone, brick & timber cladding. The designs for the conversion to residential use retain the internal arrangement of stables which is refected in the external modelling.

Developer: Geoff Thompson

White Horse Farm, Hockliffe

The original farmhouse and stables were Grade II Listed Buildings, now converted into a series of residential units with some demolition and rebuilding of part of the stables.

Developer: McCann Homes Ltd

Merton Grange, Gamlingay

Merton Grange, Gamlingay – Merton Grange was an existing complex of agricultural buildings, built as a ‘model farm’ to serve the Landed Estate.  The buildings had long been redundant and this project undertook their conversion to a residential use.  The buildings were all Grade II listed so the conversion works were all carried out to ensure the salient design elements were retained.
